The Guardian
Contributed editorial features for the Guardian’s careers section and wrote sponsored content for its sustainability section, tackling anything from lab-grown beef burgers to the wildlife at Heathrow airport.
The challenge
Each piece needed to strike the right balance between clarity and credibility. Career content had to distil complex topics into practical, engaging advice for readers, while sponsored sustainability features needed to meet clients' objectives without compromising the publication's editorial tone or reader trust.
My role
I researched, structured and wrote long-form articles, adapting my style across editorial and branded content while ensuring each piece remained accessible, engaging and audience-focused.
My approach
Whether writing independently or from a client brief, I focused on understanding what readers wanted to know and presenting information in a clear, compelling narrative. For sponsored content, I worked to integrate key messages naturally, ensuring the articles delivered genuine value rather than feeling overtly promotional.
Across both sections, I tailored tone, structure and storytelling to suit the audience, using strong headlines, clear signposting and concise language to keep readers engaged throughout.
Outcome
Produced a portfolio of editorial and branded articles that met the publication's standards for quality and tone while supporting both reader engagement and client communication goals.
